The OR / CA SBT

The OR / CA SBT is a newly formed bowling organization in 2023 for senior bowlers. Our goal is to provide scratch tournaments for senior bowlers, men 50 and older, and women 40 and over, in the southern Oregon and northern California region. The scratch bowling club’s intent is to provide a fun, affordable, yet competitive environment for senior scratch bowlers in our area. Our inaugural season will have 7 events from as far south as Chico in California, up to Grants Pass in Oregon.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

Men must have reached their 50th birthday by the last day of the month that the tournament takes place. Women must have reached their 40th birthday by the same date. Tournaments are non-USBC sanctioned, but general playing rules will follow the rules of the USBC unless otherwise noted. Super Senior bowlers are classified as bowlers that will have reached 60 years of age by the above criteria, which makes them eligible for specific Super Senior awards.

FEES:

For our inaugural season, we will not require an annual membership fee. Our tournament fees are planned to regularly be a tournament entry fees of $120, although we may have some reduced entry fees on occasion that will be advertised in advance of such. There may be some recruiter incentives in the future that will reduce entry fees for both the recruiter and recruited bowler.

TOURNAMENTS:

For our inaugural season, all our tournaments will be a singles format.  Our standard format is 5 games of qualifying, followed by a matchplay semi-finals of the top 1/3 of the field that will bowl 5 more games with carryover, followed by a stepladder finals.  Size of field may reduce the number of games bowled in matchplay if field is less than 30 bowlers.

My hope is to incorporate a few non-PBA senior events in our region to become part of our future schedule, such as the Andy Anderson memorial doubles (1 Senor / 1 Non-Senior) in Medford, as well as a Master’s event. For 2024, I would like to add a membership fee, and hold a Grand Finals Event at the end of the season (2024 Fall).

DRESS CODE:

A bowling shirt with your name on the back is recommended. Men must wear Docker like slacks, dress shorts, or nice jeans. No basketball style shorts, nor T-shirts please. Women may wear a skirt, shorts, skorts, or slacks. Future dress code may address additional restrictions based on the feedback of the bowling members.

PRIZE MONEY:

100% of the prize fund is returned to our bowlers. Five dollars from each entry goes towards the tournament director fees (TD has discretion to add that money back into the prizefund, as has been done at our first two tournaments). Women bowlers are eligible to receive a High non-cashing Women Bowler check based on a minimum of 3 women bowlers competing in said tournament. Super Seniors bowling Bowlers (60 and older) are eligible to receive a High non-cashing Super Senior check based on a minimum of 3 super senior bowlers bowling in said tournament. We pay a standard of $20 per entry to our host centers for lineage for the 2023 season.
