Congratulations to Medford, Oregon’s Tony Cox for becoming our 4th different OR / CA Senior Tournament Champion. Tony defeated Sean Fischer of Chico, California 227-197 in the Championship match to collect a $500 prize.

We had 26 bowlers for our 5th event of the season at Lava Lanes of Medford, with good scores coming on the Great Wall of China Kegel pattern.

Redding champion Brian Tinsley of Live Oak, California led qualifying with a +169 score, with the Cox shooting a 242 the last game of qualifying to sneak in as the cut number for match play at +93. Joe Guches became our third member to shoot a 300 game in qualifying this season, and he used the big final game qualifying to vault him into the finals as well. Nicco Holt was our high super senior out of the cash award winner with a 9th place effort overall at +73 for $100 and our only woman participant – Jill Creamer of Redding – qualified in second overall with a very nice +151 score.

The Matchplay round had some big momentum swings as Cox went from 8th to the lead in only two games on the strength of back to back 250’s, but Fischer locked up the #1 seed with a victory over Cox in the final matchplay game. Tinsley used a 233 victory over Creamer to edge out Don Carle for the final stepladder spot by 13 pins.

In the stepladder, Cox jumped out to an early lead and defeated Tinsley in the first match 245-197. The Title match was close throughout, with Cox stepping up in the 10th frame with a 10 pin lead & on a strike. Needing the first strike to shut out Fischer, Cox buried a strike to seal the win before adding the next two strikes to finish at 227. Fischer collected $375 for the runner-up finish.

Rick Yunke of Chico was our ball raffle winner of a new Brunswick Teal Rhino.

I want to thank Mike Buckman and all the Lava Lanes staff for being a wonderful host, as well as our sponsors, Adam Ishman & Brunswick Bowling, Donald D Marquart Sr & Epicenter, & Pat Young with Smooth Release Pro Shop.

June

Congratulations to Brian Tinsley for winning our OR / CA Senior Bowling Tournament at Country Bowl yesterday. Brian defeated top seed Bob Reed in a close match, 232-224 to collect his first OR / CA SBT victory and a $450 payday.

We had 28 bowlers turn out to bowl in our third event of the season, with a moderately high scoring pace on the day. Brian Tinsley also was our first bowler to record a 300 in our new bowling club, and he led qualifying with a new record of 1247. The cut score was a +92 to make the top 8 for matchplay, with Brian Sendelbach getting the last check for 9th at +91. Tim Weston was our high Super Senior out of cash and collect the $100 prize, while Jill Creamer was our high woman out of cash for her $100 prize.

At the end of matchplay, Tinsley, Reed, and Jeff Polson had taken the top three positions to secure spots in the stepladder, with Polson holding off a late charge by Chris Gulliford by one pin. In the first match, a couple of untimely splits by Polson erased an early lead, and Tinsley threw a late 7 bagger for the 257-221 win. The title match was a back and forth affair that was never more than 10 pins difference. Brian finished first, with Reed having a chance to Double and get 9 pins to win the match. Bob got the first strike on a flush shot, but a ringing 10 pin on his second shot secured the victory for Brian.
I would like to give a big THANK YOU to Anthony Thompson and Country Bowl for hosting us, as well as all of the help this weekend for a super smoothly ran tournament. I also want to thank all the bowlers who came out to bowl, especially those that continue to help promote and encourage new participants for our newly founded organization.

June's Country Bowl Winner Brian Tinsley
